Guardian Pest Control Filth Flies and other Flies Management

Importance
House fly life stagesFlies are victor borne diseases, agricultural pests, food contamination causes and nuisance insects. They have high reproductive rates. This feature is a cause for their resistance to some pesticides. Flies belong to the order Diptera which characterized by having one pair of forewings. The hind wings are used as a balance organs and called halters. Sanitation, elimination of the larval breeding sources, adult’s habitats alternation and exclusions are the key elements in the fly management. Pesticide applications should be used only as the last resort depending on the situation and as instructed in the product label.

Lifecycle

Females lay eggs in decaying moist materials, garbage or animal manures where the larvae feed and develop into a puparium (a rigid outer shell formed from the larval skin where the pupa develops). Adults emerge from the puparium, mate and females lay several batches of eggs (100 -150 eggs per batch). The life cycle depends on the fly species and temperature conditions. Under optimal temperature (80-90°F), flies may develop from eggs to adults within seven days. In average, life cycle takes 21-25 days.
